Pediatric Emergency and Critical Care Course (PEDECC)

This course is designed to cover pediatric critical care and emergency care basics and provide pediatricians with the necessary information and skills to handle such cases. We believe that this course will greatly help all pediatricians, and we are confident that it will provide them with the right tools to prepare themselves for any emergency situation better.

PEDECC is a 2-day training course for pediatricians in the practice of managing the critically ill child between 1 month to 18 years.

  • The first day comprises of CLASSROOM TRAINING for pediatric emergency assessment, recognition, and stabilization based on scientific principles
  • The second day is focused on HANDS-ON SKILLS SESSION.  Participants will follow an adaptive learning path using clinical scenarios and reinforce their skills proficiency in the HANDS-ON-SKILL class.
  • Pre-course and Post-course tests are designed to evaluate the level of knowledge and skills before to and after the courses.

Those who successfully manage the postcourse test at the end of the HANDS-ON-SESSIONs will receive the CERTIFICATE of PEDECC.

Outline of PEDECC course are as follows:

1. BASIC LIFE SUPPORT

  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • Foreign body aspiration
  • Performing an Emergent Cricothyroidotomy
  • Drowning

2. AIRWAY- VENTILATION
Clinical signs and symptoms of respiratory distress and respiratory failure
Non-invasive Oxygen Delivery Methods

  • Nasal Cannula, Venturi mask
  • Non-rebreather mask, laringeal mask
  • High-flow Nasal Oxygen Therapy 

 

Invasive Ventilation

  • Tracheal Rapid Sequence Intubation 
  • Difficult airway
  • Basics of mechanical ventilation for non-critical care MDs

3. RHYTHM DISTURBANCES
EKG readings and recognize ritm abnormalities
Treatment modalities –

  • Cardioversion
  • Defibrillation

4. SHOCK

  • Intraosseous Vascular Access
  • Fluid management in shock patients

 

5. PEDIATRIC RADIOLOGY EVALUATION VIA CLINICAL CASE SCENARIOS
Kahoot Pediatric Radiology Competition

  • X-ray
  • Bedside Ultrasound- Lungs – pneumonia, bronchiolitis, atelectasis, pneumothorax, pleural fluid
  • Cardiovascular  evaluation and iv fluid responsiveness 
  • Basic CT evaluation for KIBAS

 

6. PEDIATRIC TRAUMA

  • Emergency trauma management and Transfer to Trauma Center
  • Approach to Unstable Child - Shock – Massive Transfusion Protocols
  • Emergent needle decompression for tension pneumothorax
